The Army is providing shelter for a baby elephant recovered from the Narakamulla Forest in Thoppigala.
Members of the Army came across this baby elephant which was marooned in the forest for several days after losing its mother. The baby elephant was in a weak condition due to lack of food for several days. The Army had succeeded in providing the required shelter, food and drugs to this elephant.
Action was initiated to entrust the three-month-old baby elephant to the Elephant Orphanage at Uda Walawa through the Veterinary Medical Unit of the Wildlife Conservation Department.
