The Department of Meteorology has forecast more rain in the island within the next few days.
Director General of the Met Department G.B Samarasinghe said that Southwest monsoonal rain will be experienced by the end of May. Southwest winds are now visible. This is very clear from the rain experienced in the morning, particularly in the Western and Southern Provinces. As the direction of the win had changed, thunder showers which mostly commence from inland moves towards the Eastern coast. More rain is experienced in the Uva and Eastern Provinces during the afternoon, and also thunder showers in the North Central and Central Provinces. He said the rain is experienced in the morning in the Western and Southern coastal areas.
In addition there is the Inter Tropical Zone, active zone where the wind coming from the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere meets, is still affecting the weather over the island. Showers or thunder showers will occur at times in the Western and Southern provinces during the morning. However, the Met Department Director General said that more rain can be experienced in the next few days. He also warned residents in landslide prone areas to be vigilant.
