The Ministry of External Affairs has stressed that the Darusman Report is flawed.
The Report which was published early this week is fundamentally flawed in many respects and that among other deficiencies, it is biased on biased material, which has been presented sans any verification. In a statement, the External Affairs Ministry said the Government of Sri Lanka has given highest priority to post-conflict reconciliation, rehabilitation, reconstruction and development.
The Government is in the process of addressing these challenges and has recorded significant success on many fronts. These included resettlement of IDPs, restoring livelihood in conflict affected areas, release of former child soldiers recruited by terrorists, rehabilitation of detainees, de-mining, restoring democratic processes in the North and East as well as in the reconstruction of housing and infrastructure. It is the belief of the Sri Lankan Government that all these actions helped in building national unity. But the External Affairs Ministry underlined that the Darusman Report is an impediment to the initiatives taken to build peace, security and stability in the country.
Emphasising that this would lead to dividing the communities, the Ministry noted that the report had been compiled to meet the political agenda of certain groups.
