New habitats will be provided to 4,000 families in Digamadulla which would receive water from the Rambaken Oya.
The water for this Reservoir will be received by constructing a Dam across Rambaken Oya. The 1500 long Dam will be 30 metres high. It can accommodate 56 million cubic metres of water. The main canal which would divert water will be seven kilometers long. The cost of the Project is 2.5 billion rupees. Many development projects will be launched in parallel to this project. Accordingly it is planned to build hospitals and roads. 75 percent of the work has already been completed. Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva inspected the construction work.
Rambaken Oya will nurture 6000 acres of land. In addition to paddy, additional crops will also be cultivated. Each person is due to receive one and half acres for cultivation.
