The first foreign vessel enters the Magampura Ruhunapura Mahinda Rajapaksa Harbour.
Registered in Singapore, this vessel ‘Vanhai 502’ is 269 metres in length. It had docked at the Magampura Harbour on its way to Colombo from Malaysia.
The container ship carrying 2,850 containers docked at the International Port in Hambanthota yesterday. Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena who was present on this occasion said that the arrival of the vessel dispelled the allegations of the port’s inaccessibility to receive large ships. The Deputy Minister said that the vessel docked at the Magampura Harbour on its way to Colombo from Malaysia. He said more ships are expected at the Harbour within the next few days.
Chairman of the Ports Authority Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrema joined in the inspection of the container vessel.
