One man was killed and four people including two young children were injured in a Thursday afternoon collision on Clarkson Road.
A car bearing a driver and 6- and 4-year-old children crashed into the side of another car when the second car drove through a stop sign around 5:40 p.m., the S.C. Highway Patrol said.
A Honda sedan heading west on Martin Luther King Boulevard entered the crossing at Clarkson Road without stopping at the stop sign, trooper Billy Elder said.
The driver, identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts as Thomas D. Hartwig, 55, of Misty Oaks Court, Lexington, died at the scene from multiple injuries, despite wearing a seat belt.
Hartwig's car was struck on the driver's side by a Chevrolet car driven by Kiona Wright, 25, of Dry Branch Way, Hopkins. Wright and three passengers were taken to Palmetto Health Richland for treatment, Elder said.
