Man sentenced to 18 months in jail for threatening S.C. senator

A former Columbia resident who threatened an S.C. senator will spend 18 months in federal prison for his actions.

Dalton Lee Mackenzee, 45, was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Joseph Anderson. After his prison term, Mackenzee will be on probation for three years, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

On March 13, 2010, Mackenzee left a series of phone messages threatening to use explosives to kill Sen. Darrell Jackson, D-Richland. Jackson. The messages were left on Jackson’s voice mail at Bible Way Church of Atlas Road where he is the pastor.

Mackenzee left his name and phone number on the messages and telephone records confirmed that he had made the calls from Galveston, Texas where he was living at the time.

Mackenzee pleaded guilty to the charges in April.
