UNP Parliamentarian and President’s Counsel Wijayadasa Rajapaksa has said that it was the obligation of not only the Government but also the Opposition at this juncture, not to allow the world to belittle the motherland. He made this reference in response to a query raised on statements by certain groups in the Opposition.
Mr. Rajapaksa said this is a situation in which there is international interference and pressure exerted on Sri Lanka after gaining independence. This is also the first time that a serious allegation has been made against the country. Therefore he said he considered it was the responsibility of all citizens to take action to safeguard the dignity of the country, irrespective of positions and also to refrain from making statements that would denigrate and undermine the country.
