President tells the children “Love your country”

President Rajapaksa has emphasized that his only desire is to see that the posterity would be group which will love and not betray the country. He said he is proud of the achievements of the children.

The President told the children to love the country. He said Sinhala, Tamil as well as Muslim children have come to receive scholarships. He advised them to whatever community they belonged to, this was their motherland and they did not have any other country. He told the children to dedicate themselves on behalf of the country. Various forces were attempting to destabilize the country when it was united and to reverse its achievements.. But he said if they cared for the country, they would be a generation which would not support its betrayal

The President was speaking at a ceremony organized to award scholarships to students who excelled at the Grade Five Scholarship Examination.  It was organized at Temple Trees.  Scholarships have been provided by the Employees Trust Fund.  400 children of ETF members received scholarships and gifts. The Scholarship programme is a concept mooted by the President in 1994 when he served as the Labour Minister.  President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge also expressed his views.
