Massive crowds join in processions for the UPFA rally

The Colombo city was a sea of heads in view of May Day commemoration. Massive crowds reached Colombo to display the valor of working class.

Hundreds of thousands of workers converged on Colombo under the organization of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) giving a solemn pledge to strengthen the massive development drive of the motherland which had been redeemed from terrorism.

The hundreds of thousands of workers reached the Lipton Roundabout in processions from four directions. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the key political party of the Alliance commenced from Campbell Park.

The National Freedom Front procession wended its way from the White Park at Maligakanda in Maradana and joined the Freedom Alliance procession.


The procession of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna with its leaders commenced from Narahenpita and joined the main procession at the Lipton Roundabout.

Leaders of several Leftist Parties joined the May Day procession of the Socialist Front which commenced after garlanding the status of Dr. N.M. Perera at Rajagiriya.

As the May Day Rally at the Colombo Town Hall Grounds commenced the entire surroundings was a sea of heads.

Meanwhile, The Up Country People’s Front rally was held at the Tamil Vidyalaya grounds in Agarapatana. The procession commenced from the Agarapatana town. Many members of the Upcountry People’s Front joined in the May Day rally which was held under the patronage of the Party leader Shanthani Devi Chandrasekaran and Political Wing leader and Parliamentarian V. Radhakrishna.
