More than 95 pounds of old, unused or expired medications were collected over the weekend by the Richland County Sheriffs Department.
The drive, co-sponsored by the Richland County Sheriff's Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, was part of a national effort to focus attention on the issue of prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse.
During the year, citizens can drop off prescription medications for disposal at various sheriffs department locations. Call (803) 576-3000 for more information.
All personal medication information should be blacked-out or scraped off the packages before they are turned in.
Prescription drug abuse is a common problem in America, studies show.
