No record for Myrtle Beach for the number of people doing the 1960s dance, "The Twist," at the same time.
The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Horry County had organized the effort Saturday evening to break the Guinness Book of World Records mark for the most people simultaneously doing the dance.
South Carolina native Chubby Checker made the dance famous in 1960 and was in Myrtle Beach to perform.
By the time officials had more than 1,900 people gathered to try to break the record, Checker was performing on another stage. The crowd for the record-breaking attempt began to drift away, though some danced to a recording.
More than 1,692 people would have had to perform the dance simultaneously for five minutes.
