Gov. Nikki Haley said her decision not to support a sales tax exemption for online retailer Amazons proposed distribution center in Lexington County, with 1,249 jobs, is not affecting other businesses consideration of South Carolina as a potential location.
All of the calls Im having, no one is talking about Amazon, Haley said after Mondays Budget and Control Board meeting. I know thats the conversation in South Carolina. Thats not the conversation around the world.
We are adding companies by the day.
Two companies, San Francisco-based Bloom Energy and Chicago-based Altgen, recently eliminated Lexington County as a potential expansion site. Altgens operations manager told The State last week that company financiers are wary that incentives they need would not be given because of legislative rejection of Amazons.
But Haley said she did not believe those decisions were because of the Amazon debate.
