President Rajapaksa has given an assurance to extend maximum support that can be given for Sri Lanka to win the bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
The President gave this assurance accepting the Bid book which is to be presented for Hambantota to host the Commonwealth Games. Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage presented the Bid Book to the President at Temple Trees. The Book is due to be presented at the Commonwealth Sports Federation meeting to be held in Malaysia on the 11th of this month. The only other bidder to host the event is the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia. The Commonwealth Games Federation is due to announce the winning bid in Basseterre, St Kitts on the 11th of November.
