No disciplinary action against UNP MPs – Court order

May 4, 2011 11:35:14 AM - itnnews.lk

The Colombo District Court has issued an enjoining order restraining the United National Party from taking disciplinary action against Parliamentarians Manusha Nanayakkara and Upeksha Swarnamali.

Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapha said that the UNP had initiated disciplinary action against MPs Manusha Nanayakkara and Upeksha Swarnamali for supporting the Government in the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. They were able to secure an enjoining order saying it is illegal to take such action. He said that today the District Judge issued a stay order restraining the UNP from taking action and saying that supporting the 18th Amendment was not illegal.

Parliamentarian Manusha Nanayakkara said that the judiciary had endorsed again that the decision taken by them on behalf of the country future and development is not illegal. As such, he said it issued an enjoining order until the proceedings are over.
