President Rajapaksa says that family health workers should earn the honour of bringing down the mortality rate among children and expectant mothers.
The President made this reference at a ceremony in Temple Trees to mark the 2011 International Family Health commemoration. Lalitha Padmini who was among the outstanding Health workers among the world received a special award from the President. Speaking further, the President opined that there was a major link between the family health workers and the villages. He referred to inordinate consumption of food by children misled through various publicity campaigns. The President pointed out that the family health workers can play a notable role to educate the public of the use of nutritious food grown in their home gardens. Minister Maithiapala Sirisena, Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana and Deputy Minister Lalith Dissanayake were present.
