Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa has today announced in parliament that the Supreme Court has found the proposed private sector pension bill to be in accordance with the Constitution.
The Speaker has said the Supreme Court had informed parliament of its decision.
The Speaker was handed over the court ruling by the Supreme Court Tuesday (3).
The Supreme Court studied the bill following a petition filed against the piece of legislation by several trade unions.
The legislation was to be presented to parliament on April 27, but was postponed due to the court case.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has however said the pension scheme would be implemented amidst opposition.
