Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva today said the report by the panel of experts appointed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Sri Lanka is based on hear say evidence.
De Silva addressing a media briefing at the Mahaweli Center today said that hear say evidence is not accepted by any court of law.
He said that the government could easily respond to the allegations leveled by panel in its report, but the government would take the appropriate steps at the appropriate time.
De Silva observed that the report itself has stated that the panel had not embarked upon an investigation procedure into the matter. He said the panel neither had the authority nor a mechanism to conduct such an investigation.
