Two men are in custody this evening after a police chase but have not been charged in the home invasion and sexual assault of a woman in Columbia, a Columbia police spokesman said.
The men were taken in custody by police after a chase on Bluff Road late Thursday morning. The men jumped out of the car which had been stolen from the Rosewood home where the invasion and sex assault took place and fled on foot, but were quickly rounded up, police said.
Between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Thursday, two men broke into a home on Deerwood Street in Rosewood, sexually assaulted a woman who lived there, stole various items and then took her car, police said.
The chase began when police spotted the stolen car with two men in it, the spokesman said.
Right now, we are looking at them as persons of interest. At this point, no charges have been filed, the spokesman said Thursday evening.
