President Rajapaksa has declared open the Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Mandiraya constructed at the Manelwathu Vihare at Bollegala in Kelaniya.
The Mandiraya was built in parallel to the 2600 Sambuddhatva Jayanthiya. Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Mandiraya was put up under the guidance of the Ven. Bodaagama Chandima Thera, Chief Sanghanayake of Taiwan and the Presidential Advisor on International Buddhist Affairs and the aegis of the Theravadi Samadhi Education Foundation of Taiwan. The President also declared open the three storeyed building affiliated to the International Buddhist University, which houses the hostel. Accordingly facilities will be available for local as well as foreign clergy and the laity to pursue Buddhist studies at the Manelwathu Vihare. The President also inspected the Seema-malaka of the Vihare. The President offered alms to 2600 Bhikkus after the Buddha Pooja.
The Ven. Dr. Bodaagama Chandima Thera presented a memento to the President. International Buddhist representatives who patronized in this event also presented mementos to the President. The President handed over a special gift to the Chairman of the Theravadi Samadhi Foundation Wan Chu Chin for the yeoman services rendered by him for the uplift of Theravadhi Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Members of the Maha Sangha, foreign Buddhist representatives, Parliamentarians, the Defence hierarchy and public officials were among the large gathering present.
