A man on a moped was killed early this morning in Lexington by an apparent hit-and-run driver, Lexington police said.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was struck around 3 a.m. near the intersection of South Lake Drive and Industrial Drive. He died a short time later at a local hospital.
A Lexington police department spokeswoman said officers hope later today to be able to release information on the vehicle believed to have killed the man.
The intersection, near I-20, has been shut down so police can gather information from the crash site.
Traffic was still being detoured away from the area later in the morning. Police hope to open the streets to traffic around noon, or possibly a bit later.
