The entire country is getting ready to commemorate the Sambuddhatva Jayanthiya – which marks 2600 years of Lord Buddha’s Enlightenment. A series of pinkamas is also being planned.
The Pinnacle of the newly constructed Vihare Mandiraya at the Sri Lankarama Maha Vihare at Leslie Ranagala Mawatha in Borella has been unveiled. The pinkama was conducted by the Ven. Borelle Kovinda Thera under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent the Ven. Weeragoda Gnana Thera.
School children of the Northwestern Province also participated in the offering of alms and sil and meditation campaigns. The main Pinkama was held at the Bauddhaloka Piriven Vihare in Kurunegala. North Western Governor Tissa Balalla and chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe participated.
A Bodhi Pooja Pinkama was held with the participation of one thousand senior citizens at the Panduwasnuwara Raja Maha Vihare. The Pinkama was arranged on behalf of the Sambuddhatva Jayanthiya.
A sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi was planted at the Badaragala Aranya Senasana at Pallebedda. The sapling was brought to the Senasanaya in a colourful perahera.
