University lecturers have threatened to institute legal action against a circular issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The UGA had on May 3 issued a circular instructing university academics to provide three months notice before their resignation.
The Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) has said it would take legal action against the circular.
Head of FUTA, Dr. Nimal Devasiri has told the media that the UGC circular is illegal according to Section 51 (III) of the Universities Act no 16 of 1978.
He has said that it does not refer to any particulars of the resignation process of voluntary administrative positions.
