A conference on the South Carolina coast this week is all about digging around the roots of the family tree.
The National Genealogical Society opens its 33rd Family History Conference in North Charleston on Tuesday. Part of the conference will focus on commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
The conference offers various sessions including one on tracking down records in the South and Southeast. There are also sessions on technology and using the Internet to trace your family tree.
There are also lectures on researching Cherokee ancestors whether they marched west along the Trail of Tears or stayed in the Carolinas.
The society was founded in 1903 and is dedicated to researching and the preservation of genealogical records.
