May 10, 2011 11:00:56 AM - itnnews.lk

The Pensions Bill which will ensure the future of Private Sector employees will be tabled in Parliament in the next Parliamentary session.

Minister Gamini Lokuge said that the Bill will be moved in Parliament with several amendments. Talks had also been conducted with many Trade Unions. Their views and proposals had been directed to the Finance Ministry. Accordingly, final decisions are to be reached. According to the bill that was earlier presented to Parliament, a member of the Fund only becomes eligible to receive a pension at the age of 60. However, according to the amendments, the pension will be granted from the day of retirement. Also the spouse will be entitled to withdraw the pension in case of the demise of the pensioner. The Minister is confident that the New Bill would become a broad programme which would ensure the future of the workers.
