The Supreme Court mediates in preventing child abuse in Children’s Homes.
Accordingly, the Supreme Court issued an order to several state institutions to craft a programme to prevent child abuse. The Apex Courts gave this order after considering a fundamental rights petition filed by a girl of a Children’s Home who was subject to abuse. The three member panel of judges headed by Justice Shirani Thilakawardena instructed the National Child Protection Authority and the Western Province Child Care Department to formulate and present a programme to Courts after soliciting advice of experts. The two related establishments were also ordered to submit an interim report on the programme on the second of August.
