Police officers in the ITN journalist attack saga further remanded

The two police officers who attacked ITN journalist Niroshan Premaratne have been further remanded.

The case was taken up for hearing in the Panadura Magistrate’s Court today. The Magistrate Ranga Dasanayake who considered the case ordered that the two suspects be remanded until tomorrow. Further hearing will resume tomorrow. The Journalist was subject to arbitrary attack within the Panadura Police Station. He was arrested by several officers of the Panadura Traffic Unit on charges that he had driven the vehicle without heeding police orders. Instead of conducting the necessary inquiries, Niroshan Premaratne had been brutally assaulted. After being admitted to the Panadura hospital he was transferred to the Colombo South hospital due to injuries he has sustained on the head.
