Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake will become Sri Lanka’s new Chief Justice.
The Parliamentary Council which met today approved the nomination of Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake to the post of the Chief Justice. She has wide experience after serving a Justice of the Supreme Court. With her taking of oaths, she would become Sri Lanka’s first woman Chief Justice. She will be succeeding Chief Justice Asoka De Silva.
Meanwhile, the Council also approved the appointment of retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Jagath Balapatabendhi as the Commissioner to probe Bribery and Corruption. Also Prof. Dayasiri Fernando nomination has been approved as the Chief of the Public Service Commission. President Rajapaksa submitted these nominations to the Parliamentary Council.
