Minister Bandula Gunawardene has revealed that Information Technology will be a subject that will be introduced to classes above Grade Six.
The Minister said that although the computer was being used in some primary schools as an educational tool. Information technology was being taught as a subject from Grade Ten onwards and as such the Minister pointed out that they have decided to introduce Information Technology as a subject from Grade Six onwards from next January. He pointed out that necessary action was being taken for the preparation of curricular, text books and teacher handbooks. He said that this work was being undertaken by the National Institute of Education and the Computer Division of the Education Ministry.
The Minister was speaking at a ceremony organized for the launching a programme to grant note book computers and internet facilities to school by Etisalat via the State Trading General Corporation. The relevant agreement was also inked. Minister Johnston also addressed the gathering.
