State economist steps down

South Carolinas chief economist has resigned his post, according to the Budget and Control Board.
Bill Gillespie led the Office of Research and Statistics, the state agency responsible to tracking state tax revenues and estimating the fiscal impact of proposed legislation. Gillespie also was an adviser for the three-member Board of Economic Advisors, which sets officials state revenue projections.
Gillespies retirement is effective Sunday.
Budget and Control Board spokeswoman Lindsey Kremlick said the three-member Board of Economic Advisors will meet Wednesday to discuss how to choose Gillespie successor.
