Indian authorities are to release a group of 20 Sri Lankan fishermen and their vessels to the Fisheries Ministry.
The Indian Coast Guard is to hand over these fishermen and their four trawlers on Monday (16).
The Fisheries Ministry has stated that the fishermen, who are residents of Beruwela, Trincomalee and Puttalam, had been arrested by the Indian authorities on April 3 and April 25.
According to the Ministry, there are 31 Sri Lanakn fishermen and six trawlers in Indian custody and the release of this group of 20 fishermen has been secured following lengthy discussions.
The Fisheries Ministry is in the process of securing the release of the remaining Sri Lankan fishermen from Indian custody.
