Govt. takes measures to prevent non-communicable diseases

The Health Minister has said that the Sri Lankan Government has taken a number of policy measures to prevent the spread of non-communicable diseases.

The meeting of the Commonwealth Health Ministers got underway in Geneva, Switzerland. Expressing his views at the inaugural session Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that the social issues related to the non-communicable diseases should also be addressed. The Government has introduced School Canteen Policy Act to prevent the spread of Diabetes and other non-communicable diseases among school children. He further stressed that the Government has taken steps to ban the sale of soft drinks and instant foods at the school canteens.
