Resettlement process enters a successful phase

G.A of Vavuniya Ms. P.S.M. Charles has admitted that the number of people staying in the camps  for the displaced in Vavuniya has dropped to 3000.

The GA said that the number of people has dropped due to the speedy development programme of the President and the government and the streamlined resettlement programme. She expressed these views when she participated in a programme to present awards for those who were engaged in the removal of landmines in Vavuniya. The winners of the art, oratorical, drama and short story contests held amongst school children were also awarded certificates. It was held under the auspices of the de-mining organizations that function under aid from the Swiss government. The GA said that the President’s direct intervention in resettling the displaced people in the North is appreciable. The Government is working enthusiastically to provide the infrastructure required by them. Measures are underway to uplift the economy under the supervision of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa. Agricultural implements, seeds and fertilizer have been provided to them to uplift their standard of living. She said that it is commendable that the Government has committed itself to provide their housing requirements.
