Today is the most sacred Day for the Buddhists throughout the world.
The birth, enlightenment and the passing away of the Buddha is commemorated on this day. This year’s Wesak day achieves more significance as it marks the completion of 2600 years since the Buddha attained enlightenment. The birth of a Buddha is a rare occurrence. The 2500th Buddha Jayanthi was celebrated on a grand scale in 1956. It is followed by his year’s grand celebration. A number of programmes are being launched with state patronage. The theme of the celebration is ‘revitalising and Reorganising our moral life’.
