A 39-year-old Camden man was shot and killed during a home invasion Monday night, and his common-law wife was kidnapped for a short time along with her 5-day-old baby.
There is "some similarity" between this crime, three home invasions last week and the Monday morning robbery of a Camden Food Lion, Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said. However, there are also differences, and there are no suspects or persons of interest, he said.
The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division is aiding the sheriff's office in the investigation. A SLED crime scene unit processed the mobile home on Sandspur Road where the homicide occurred, Matthews said.
Around 11:15 p.m., three men wearing dark clothing and ski masks kicked in the front door of the murder victim's mobile home, Matthews said.
The man was in his living room with the newborn, and the baby's mother was asleep in her bedroom.
