The Internet was the prostitution ring’s primary marketing tool, court documents say, with online advertisements for adult services in Charlotte and other cities across the South.
But when a woman said she wanted out, the documents say, Craig Allen Rodgers got violent – pulling her hair, striking her face and threatening more harm to force her to continue performing sex for money.
Authorities arrested Rodgers on Friday in the parking lot of a Charlotte extended-stay hotel, where he was spotted with two women, including the woman authorities say wanted out.
“He employed physical violence and threats to coerce her to continue providing commercial sex acts,” says a federal criminal complaint filed Monday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Mecklenburg.
Rodgers was in Mecklenburg jail late Monday, accused of running a commercial sex ring that traveled across the country in his white-and-gold Ford Expedition. His bond information wasn’t available Monday and his attorney couldn’t be reached.
