A boil-water advisory has been issued for Columbia Water Works customers in the Harper/Chestnut street area, including Carver-Lyon Elementary School, following a water main break.
The city issued the advisory after a 10-inch main broke this morning near the corner of Harper and Chestnut streets.
Because of the potential for bacterial contamination, customers in the affected area and any one experiencing a drop in water pressure should boil water vigorously for one full minute before using it to drink, cook or make ice.
Customers in the 2400 block of Harper Street and the 2100 block of Chestnut, including Carver Elementary, are the particular targets of the advisory.
Utility employees are working to fix the water main now, and the advisory will remain in place until lab tests confirm the water is safe.
