Colombo city illuminated for Wesak

Colombo city has been illuminated and decorated colourfully to mark the Wesak festival. Wesak lanterns were exhibited at the Kalubowila hospital to mark the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. Different units of the hospital had created the lanterns to be exhibited. The Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Wesak zone was launched in the Nugegoda town by Peoples Bank’s two Western zones. Lanterns created by 22 branches of the Bank belonging to these zones are being exhibited. A Wesak zone has been created at the Pepiliyana Sunethra Devi Raja Maha Vihara. Pandols and lanterns are being exhibited under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Wellampitiyae Sumanadhamma Thera.

The exquisite Hiripitiya lantern is being exhibited for the 21st time. It has been organized by the Mabulgoda YMBA. A pandol has been erected in the centre of the Kottawa town. A Buddha statue erected under the patronage of the youth association in Pathiragoda, Maharagama to mark the Sambuddhatva Jayanthi was unveiled yesterday. Religious observances were also held. A large number of people participated in the rice Dansela organized by the Three Wheeler Association of Viharawatta, Pathiragoda. A series of religious functions were organized by the Sri Ariyamitta Dhamma School in Pannipitiya. The functions will be held for seven days under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Lenabautuwe Mittaloka Thera.
