Estate sector trade unions are looking at reaching consensus on a wage hike for the estate workers would be reached before the end of the month.
The trade unions that have signed the collective agreement that formulates the wages of estate workers have said the unions wished to arrive at a consensus with the the Employers Federation on a new collective agreement.
The unions are to meet with the Employers Federation tomorrow (19).
Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union (LJEWU) General Secretary K. Velayudam has told the media that the unions were looking at signing a new collective agreement by the end of the month.
The state sector unions have called for an increase in the daily wage of the estate workers due to the rising cost of living.
Meanwhile, several estate sector unions that are not members of the collective agreement have said protest campaigns would be launched if the estate owners failed to grant workers a Rs. 700 daily wage.
