Local employment agencies which do not have job agencies in Saudi Arabia are totally barred from sending Sri Lankans for employment in Saudi Arabia.
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment says this has been intimated to all employment agencies in the island via a circular. Accordingly visas will be issued only for job agencies which have received the approval of the Saudi Government. It is totally banned from recruiting individuals for other visas. The new initiative has been taken following a study conducted with regard to complaints lodged with the Foreign Employment Bureau. Its Chairman Kingsly Ranawaka points out that this new directive has been introduced on behalf of the safety of Sri Lankans who take up jobs in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Ranawaka further says that they are due to secure full details of the address of the employer, the employer’s name, the salary, the employment period and the facilities that would be accorded to them.
