President Rajapaksa declares open the world’s first International Buddhist Museum.
The President declared open the Museum this morning. It has been put up after reconstructing the ancient Court Building Complex in Kandy. It comprises stalls to display Buddhist items of 17 countries. Archeologists produced this Museum under the guidance of the Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela making reality a concept of Prof. Senarath Paranavithana which was made sometime back. Members of the Mahasangha both local and foreign including the Asgiriya Mahanayake the Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera and the Anunayaka of the Malwatta Chapter the Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera graced the opening ceremony which marked the Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. Many Parliamentarians, Diplomats of several countries and Political Representatives were present.
