A Democratic group has launched the first ad of the 2012 campaign cycle, criticizing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on the issue of health care.
Romney will be in South Carolina Saturday.
The ad, which will run on television and the Internet, notes another Republican presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich, recently criticized a GOP plan to convert the federally funded Medicare and Medicaid programs into block grants.
Mitt Romney says he's on the same page as Paul Ryan, who wrote the plan to essentially end Medicare, the ad says. But with Mitt Romney, you have to wonder ... which page is he on today?
Romney spokesman Andrea Saul said the ad is a desperate attempt to change the conversation. With 9.6 percent unemployment in South Carolina, voters are looking for a jobs plan not a smear campaign, Saul said.
