JVP: Govt. Allowing India To Manipulate Country

May 21, 2011 6:07:29 AM - thesundayleader.lk

The JVP has said the joint statement issued during the recent visit to India by External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris highlights the imminent danger of Indian authoritarianism.

The JVP has issued a statement saying the entire country would suffer the surrendering of Sri Lanka’s economy and security to Indian authoritarianism.

The party has stated that while the purpose of the Indian visit was to seek support against the UN panel report, some items proposed by the panel have been proposed by India as well.

According to the JVP, the government is allowing India to control Sri Lanka using the fields of Ports, Railways and fisheries and through the CEPA agreement.
“The intention of the visit to India by the Minister of Foreign affairs had been published as an attempt to get Indian support against the report by the ‘Panel of Experts’ appointed by the UN Secretary General. However, not a word regarding this is mentioned in the joint statement. On the other hand, certain proposals found in the report have been proposed back by India which is nothing but a political joke. Also, the overall content of the agreement manifests nothing but India’s requirement of manipulating Sri Lanka for its economic, political and security interests,” the JVP states.
