Religious programmes are being conducted throughout the country to mark the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi.
Titles were awarded to the Bhikkhus of the Amarapura Nikaya to mark the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi at the Sri Jayashekhararama temple in Kuppiyawatta, Colombo. Ten Bhikkus received awards for the service rendered for the development of the Sasana. A blood donation campaign organized by the Petroleum Ministry to mark the Wesak festival and the Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi was held under the patronage of Minister Susil Premajayantha at Delkanda. The Fisheries Ministry has also organized a series of programmes to mark the occasion. Members of the Maha Sangha and Minister Rajitha Senaratna participated in the programme held at the Ministry premises. Foundation laying ceremonies for three Buddhist centres in Nivithigala was held under the patronage of Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara.
The Kegalla Pradeshiya Sabha has taken measures to construct a shrine room. The constructions were initiated under the patronage of provincial Chief Minister Mahipala Herath. An all religious ‘Pindapatha’ programme was held in Rambukkana to mark the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. It was organized by the Herath ‘Jana-Sahana’ Foundation and government sector organizations in the area. A group led by Parliamentarian Kanaka herath participated in the occasion. A ‘Pindapatha’ programme organized by the Peoples Bank was launched at the Peoples Bank headquarters. A rice dansela organized by the Welfare Association of the Three Wheeler Association of Piliyandala was held at the centre of the Piliyandala town. A Bhakthi Geetha programme was held at the Sri Bauddharama Temple in Thalawathugoda. A Pindapatha Programme organized by the Sri Sanghamitta Balika Vidyalaya in Punchi Borella was initiated with the participation 35 Buddhist monks at the Borella junction. Dry rations were offered to the Maha Sangha. Principal of the school Vinitha Edirisuriya was amongst those who participated in the programme.
