South Carolina Highway Patrol says a portion of Interstate 85 North near the North Carolina state line has been closed after a tractor-trailer hit a support pillar on bridge.
Cpl. Bryan McDougald said on Sunday evening that motorists must leave I-85 at Exit 92 near Gaffney and detour on state highways for about 6 miles before they can re-enter the interstate.
He says uniformed officers will be at each turn in the detour to help motorists with directions. However, he says the highway patrol is encouraging people to find an alternate route.
McDougald says the interstate that runs through Cherokee County likely will be closed until Tuesday while the Department of Transportation examines the damage on the SC150 bridge and makes necessary repairs.
