Supposed cologne with a counterfeit label will be tested to see if it contains urine in the wake of an undercover sting at an Orangeburg County flea market and wholesale business.
The tests will be done on the liquid in cologne-like bottles seized over the weekend along with some $120,000 worth of counterfeit clothes such as NFL and NBA jerseys, shoes, moves and CDs, said Keisa Peterson, an Orangeburg County Sheriffs Department spokeswoman.
In the past, people who allegedly sell cologne with counterfeit labels have been known to lace the liquid with urine, Peterson said.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said the Secretary of States office, which oversees trademarks, assisted in the investigation and arrests of five suspects. Details about the suspects were not immediately available.
Three face charges related to the counterfeiting of merchandise, and two face charges related to the illegal distribution of recordings.
