A senior trade union leader and National Languages and Social Integration Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara has extended his support to the proposed private sector pension scheme amidst growing protests against the piece of legislation.
Nanayakkara has told the media the he supported the proposed pension scheme.
According to Nanayakkara, some trade unions opposed the pension scheme without knowing what it entails and the benefits to the private sector employees. He said most trade unions were opposing the Bill for personal gain.
He said that his trade union supported the Bill.
Nanayakkara added that the government had introduced amendments to the Bill and that President Mahinda Rajapaksa would discuss the piece of legislation with the private sector trade unions.
