Teacher trade unions have said that teachers who reported for election duty at the recently concluded local government election are yet to be paid their election duty allowance.
Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) General Secretary Joseph Stalin has told the media that even two months after the elections, the teachers are yet to be paid their allowance.
Stalin questioned the delay in making the payment as funds for the purpose have already been released months earlier.
Funds released for elections include the payments to be made to the officials on election duty as well.
Local government elections to a majority of the local government bodies was held on March 17 and two months has already lapsed.
According to Stalin, the government has taken steps to pay the other public officials who participated in election duty while the teachers are yet to be paid.
