The Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum on Charleston Harbor has rejected a proposal to develop hundreds of acres of its property with homes, a hotel and stores.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the Patriots Point Development Authority on Wednesday rejected the plan to develop 367 acres near the museum. Plans called for 3,000 homes on the Mount Pleasant property.
Instead, the board says it will focus on a smaller 36-acre parcel for development.
Board member Bill Swails says the larger development would have had problems getting town zoning permits. Swails is also mayor of Mount Pleasant.
A plan for the smaller parcel includes a hotel, visitors center and restaurants. The board did not approve any plan for the property.
