Media scholarships

Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena has said that all pledges made in the Mahinda Chinthana have been fulfilled.

 

 

He said that the Journalists do not have to face the problems that prevailed in the country before. There is a conducive environment for journalists and development work is underway. He said that at a time when LTTE well wishers who have left the country are attempting to bring pressure, the journalists have to play a role on behalf of the country. He said that the Government expects them to present quality work to the public.

He made this statement at the Asi Disi Scholarship presentation function for journalists. Mahinda Chinthana states that all Journalists will be strengthened with knowledge and experience to create a developed media culture. The scholarships were presented in fulfilling this pledge. The scholarships have been presented continuously since 2005. Hundred and fifteen Journalists who fulfill the qualifications were selected from Government and Private Media organizations. Secretary to the Media Ministry W.B. Ganegala also addressed the gathering.
